This article review highlights the role of the neuroimmune system in Alzheimer’s disease (AD), focusing on cytokines. Proinflammatory cytokines worsen neuroinflammation and damage, while anti-inflammatory ones help protect the brain. Immune cells like microglia and astrocytes both clear harmful plaques and trigger inflammation. Issues with the brain’s waste-clearing system also contribute to AD. Cytokines are key players in AD and may offer new targets for treatment.
