Dr. Bergeron

Dr. Richard Bergeron began his medical career at the University of Sherbrooke before specializing in psychiatry at the University of Ottawa. Following this, he obtained a PhD in neuroscience from McGill University. Pursuing postdoctoral studies led him to Harvard University School of Medicine in Boston.

Thanks to his years of graduate studies, he has been able to devote his entire career to the fight against Alzheimer’s disease (AD) both as a clinician and as a research scientist. Richard Bergeron has published several articles in highly reputable peer-reviewed scientific journals. It was in 2012, that his passion for the advancement of science and his desire to provide clinical care combined to create the Memory Clinic research centre.

In addition to contributing to Alzheimer’s disease research, Dr. Bergeron also supports several initiatives aimed at improving access to community services. His philanthropic commitment has also helped provide financial support to many important causes within our community.

The Seahorse Emblem

Alzheimer’s Disease is a degenerative disorder that manifests itself in the brain through causes not fully understood. As the disease progresses, any area of the brain can be affected. However, the hippocampus (so named because of its resemblance to the sea animal) is usually the first part of the brain to be impacted. This critical brain structure is closely linked to learning and memory, and this is the link between the disease itself and the symptoms. The hippocampus has been one of the most studied parts of the brain over the past 100 years.
