Description: As we age, our brains are constantly shaped by the way we live. In this talk, I will explore how two powerful lifestyle factors, physical exercise and diet, can influence brain health and cognitive function during ageing. I will take you on a journey through a fascinating communication path known as the gut-brain axis, and explain how the trillions of microbes living in our gut play an important role in keeping our brains healthy. Drawing on the latest scientific evidence, this talk aims to empower you with practical insights into what we can do, at any age, to support our brain health.

About the Speaker: Dr. Sarah Nicolas is a neuroscientist whose research focuses on understanding how lifestyle factors, particularly physical exercise and diet, influence brain function and cognitive health during ageing and in neurodegenerative diseases such as Alzheimer’s. She completed her PhD at the Université Côte d’Azur (France) and went on to conduct postdoctoral research and lecturing at the Department of Anatomy and Neuroscience, University College Cork (Ireland), where she spent several years investigating the role of the gut microbiota in the beneficial effects of exercise on brain health. She is currently a Marie Skłodowska-Curie Postdoctoral Fellow at the CRCA-CBI, Université de Toulouse (France), working on a project which explores microbiome-microglia interactions in Alzheimer’s disease.
